Construction crews working on the $470 million West Concourse expansion at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) reached a major milestone Dec. 5 as Hensel Phelps set the final piece of steel into place. The topping-off ceremony marked significant progress on the multi-year project and honored the tradespeople whose work has carried the expansion forward.The celebration focused on the skilled workers building the future of HOU — ironworkers, carpenters, electricians, equipment operators and many others whose expertise is shaping the new concourse. The event included brief remarks from Hensel Phelps staff and raffles for the crews on site.The expansion will add seven new gates for domestic and international flights, a modern baggage handling system with additional claim carousels and a weather-protected canopy connecting the Red Garage to the departures curb.
