Hundreds of military service members landed at Bush Airport to a hero's welcome
Hundreds of heroes — military veterans who suffered injuries during combat — landed at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Thursday, May 19, 2016, to a large welcome and reception before heading off for a weekend of fishing and celebration of their service during the annual Warriors Weekend X in Port O'Connor Texas.
"We look forward to welcoming these heroes to Houston each year to give them a proper send-off before they depart for the Warriors Weekend event," said George Bush Intercontinental Airport General Manager Ted Kitchens. “These brave men and women have sacrificed so much for our nation’s freedom, and it was great to see so many Houstonians come to the airport to celebrate and honor them."
Many of the warriors were amazed at the huge turnout and some even took out their smartphones to take pictures of the crowd applauding them. MoMs USA, the Houston Texans cheerleaders, local community members, as well as honor guards for the Houston Police Department, the Transportation Security Agency and the U.S. Marines were on on-hand with American flags waving.
Warrior’s Weekend is a non-profit organization dedicated to support U.S. veterans with an emphasis on military members wounded during the war on terrorism. The organization holds an annual deep sea fishing event and also donates to veteran based causes.
