Houston Welcomes Two New Additional Non Stop Flight Options to Mexico City
November 7, 2016

Two new airlines recently announced plans to add nonstop flights between Houston and Mexico City.

Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines announced plans to add a third daily trip between William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and Mexico City International Airport (MEX) effective Jan. 5, 2017. This added frequency will bring a total 11 departures a day on Southwest from Houston Hobby Airport to international destinations across Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Volaris
Volaris, which only began operating from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in January 2015 with nonstop service to Guadalajara, announced a new Houston to Mexico City route last month. The new flights will begin March 1 and will be offered four times a week.

These new routes are a result of the recent changes to the Bilateral Air Transport Agreement between Mexico and the United States. Previously, each route such as Houston to Mexico City, was limited as to how many airlines could operate the route.

"Houston Airports continues to support more liberalized bilateral agreements and the result of the US-Mexico negotiations will ensure Houston will enjoy strong options for nonstop connections to our neighbors in Mexico," said Director of Air Service Development Molly Waits.

Houston enjoys more nonstop connections to Mexico than any other U.S. airport.
