Houston Airports Provides ITRP Update to North Houston Association
July 15, 2020

On June 24, Bob Barker, Chief Development Officer of Houston Airports, made a presentation in a meeting with the North Houston Association’s (NHA) Development Trends Committee. The meeting was held at the Infrastructure Division Office at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).

Barker provided the NHA members an update on the status of the $1.3 billion IAH Terminal Redevelopment Plan (ITRP). His presentation was followed by a short question-and-answer session.

In spite of the dramatic decrease in air traffic worldwide because of the COVID-19 pandemic, ITRP has continued to advance in impressive fashion according to Barker.

“The economic downturn has not reduced the demand for design, project management and construction management on the ITRP,” he said. “We have continued to meet and advance past important milestones. Day-to-day operations are moving well.”

IAH and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) have experienced a reduction in air traffic, after a record-breaking year in 2019 in which nearly 60 million passengers traveled through Houston Airports.

Tim Joniec, HAS Director of Government Affairs and Managing Director of ADA Coordination, serves as a board member of the NHA.

“The purpose of the NHA is to connect, influence, and educate,” Joniec said, “and the ITRP clearly advances the business climate and vastly improves the quality and efficiencies of the traveling public.”

The NHA supports projects and initiatives that advance the business environment and improve the quality of life in north Harris and Montgomery counties.

Development trends are among the NHA’s three primary areas of focus, which also includes mobility as well as environment and water. NHA hosts and attends meetings and events with notable community leaders to get information and updates on the latest projects and partnerships to share with their membership.

The NHA celebrated its 37th anniversary in 2019. Formed in 1992 with 22 original members, membership now stands at more than 120 and includes leaders from business sectors such as education, legal services, engineering, environmental services, railroad, construction, banking, healthcare, hotel, transportation, and economic development.
