Houston provides more nonstop flights to Mexico than any another city in the nation and that connectivity is fueled by business and cultural relations. Houston Aviation Director Mario Diaz recently joined Mayor Sylvester Turner, the Greater Houston Partnership, Visit Houston and top Houston-area business executives on a promotional visit to Mexico City.
The Houston delegation's business forums include a keynote address by Robert Jacobson, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, a medical research forum led by Dr. Bobby Robbins, president and CEO of the Texas Medical Center, and meetings with Mexico City Mayor Miguel Mancera, Secretary of Economy Ildefonso Guajardo and Secretary of Finance and Public Credit Jose Antonio Meade.
While in the city, the delegation had a chance to cheer on the Texans who took on the Oakland Raiders at Estadio Azteca. With a strong Latin American fanbase in Texas and Califiornia, the stadium was packed. Although the Texans lost by a mere touchdown, the delegation was able to promote Super Bowl 51 which will be held in Houston on Feb. 5, 2017.
“With more than a million people anticipated to visit Houston for the Super Bowl, many of them will be our neighbors to the south, said Diaz. “And we are prepared to provide a welcoming experience as our visitors begin to arrive in our airports.”
Houston is one of only a few municipalities in the United States to offer passengers a choice between two international airports and the only city in the western hemisphere to offer nonstop flights to all six inhabited continents.
