Houston Airports held its annual back-to-school supply drive led by its Community Relations team. Employees at Houston Airports generously supported the supply drive by donating hundreds of school supplies and other promotional items. The students—ranging from kindergarten through the 12th grade—attend schools in Aldine ISD and at DePelchin Children’s Center.
The Houston Airport System continues to build upon a more than 15-year-relationship with Aldine ISD.“We are so appreciative of Rhonda Arnold and the team at Houston Airports for their commitment to the students at Aldine ISD,” said Robert Thomas, Aldine ISD Program Director Career & Business Partnerships. “From providing vouchers that assisted the Tuskegee Airmen to travel to Aldine and motivate and inspire the students to always ‘Aim High and Dream Big,’ to establishing a district-wide Aviation Club exposing students to various careers in the aviation field, they have consistently been there for us in significant ways. “This donation of backpacks for our students at Gen. Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. High School,” he continued, “is especially timely during this unprecedented, difficult season when so many families can use a helping hand. Because of your generous donation, the backpacks will lessen the burden of the cost of education for many of our families at such a challenging time.”
The Houston Airports Community Relations team partnered with DePelchin Children’s Center, located in District C to get their students ready for a rewarding school year. Houston Airports team members and partners donated and helped to stuff 400 backpacks with supplies for DePelchin students. “Our annual school backpack drive has always been important and helpful to our children and families, and this year was critical due to the many unknowns, but thanks to the Houston Airport System our children can feel prepared and supported with basic supplies to be successful,” said DePelchin Children’s Center President & CEO Jennifer Jarriel.
Through the back-to-school community outreach, Houston Airports was able to focus efforts on community needs that best align with the airport system’s strategic priorities to Act Responsibly to Achieve Social, Environmental, and Economic Sustainability as well as Investing in our Partnerships and in our Employees.
