Houston Airports Celebrates Black History Month

Black History Month is a time to reflect and recognize the contributions of African Americans to unforgettable, historic moments including those in aviation.

Houston Airports is proud to partner with Black-owned businesses and concessionaires that operate at the airports and reflect the diversity of Houston. The Breakfast Klub at IAH (Gate A7 and A17) offers soul food delights. In addition, be sure to check out “Oba” by African American artist Robert Pruitt near gates A1 and A25 at IAH.

Music lovers will enjoy the Houston Airports’ Harmony in the Air program honoring Black musicians and composers during February.

  • Tony Henry on Tuesdays at IAH, Terminal A from 3 to 6 p.m. and Wednesdays at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) from 3 to 6 p.m. 
  • Retrospect at IAH Terminal D on Fridays from 12:30 -to 3:30 p.m.
  • Melvin Johnson and the Electro-Akoustics Band at HOU on Fridays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Houston Airports was also out in the community.

Houston Airports Chief Community Relations Officer Rhonda Arnold participated in the Greater Houston Black Chamber’s Houston Black Leadership Institute held on February 2. She served as a panelist during the Business & Industries class day and discussed an overview on the Houston Airport System and its importance to the city’s economy. Other panelists included, Houston Port Commissioner Theldon Branch, III (Port) and METRO Board of Directors Secretary Troi Taylor.
