Hobby Airport Unveils Dedicated Lounge for Volunteers
July 13, 2018

The Airport Ambassadors are a vital part of the customer service operation at Houston Airports and add thousands of hours helping passengers every year. Those hours resulted in over $500k in labor savings in 2017.

In return for their service, Airport Ambassadors receive perks like free parking privileges, concessions discounts, social functions, appreciation lunches and the opportunity to meet a variety of people. William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) recently revealed a new volunteer lounge for ambassadors to take a break. Photos of the opening are available here.

The Volunteer Ambassador Headquarters features a 50-inch television, computer, telephone, mini oven, microwave, Keurig machine, and full-sized refrigerator to cover any food services. It also has 16 full sized lockers to hold any personal belongings that the ambassadors may not want to have out on the floor. Most importantly, the VAHQ has a special scanner at the door that only grants ambassadors access to their special place.  A lounge with similar amenities is also located at IAH for volunteers with assignments at that airport.

The volunteer ambassadors are some of the most hard-working people at Hobby Airport, and we wanted to give them a place to relax when needed, " said Assistant  Customer Service Manager Trai Hicks.  "It was critical of management to make sure they felt praised for all their hard work, especially their good deeds that go unseen."

The Houston Airports Ambassador Program is a rewarding experience and only requires four hours each week. To learn more about how to volunteer with the airports, please click here.
