HOUSTON- Houston Airports has secured more than $126 million in federal funding for critical infrastructure projects at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) in fiscal year 2026.
The funding includes grants announced July 2 by the Federal Aviation Administration and will support improvements to the IAH Skyway, airfield drainage and HVAC efficiencies in Terminal D. At HOU, more than $62.2 million will support the rehabilitation of Runway 13R-31L.
Construction on the HOU runway project is expected to begin in spring 2027 and take approximately 24 months.
“More than $126 million in federal funding is a significant investment in the future of Houston’s airports and the millions of passengers we serve,” said Jim Szczesniak, director of aviation for Houston Airports. “These projects strengthen the systems that keep our airports safe, reliable and moving — from the Skyway at Bush Airport to a major runway at Hobby Airport. We are grateful to the FAA for supporting infrastructure that will serve Houston and its global connections for decades to come.”
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced $1.776 billion in FAA grants on July 2 for airport projects across 46 states, including runway rehabilitation, safety upgrades and passenger-focused improvements.
“What better way to celebrate America than investing in its future. We’re ushering in the Golden Age of Transportation and rebuilding our airport infrastructure is critical to making that vision a reality. Under President Trump’s leadership, we are building an aviation system worthy of our country’s incredible history,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy.
“The FAA is prioritizing improving our nation’s airports and ensuring we issue grants quickly and efficiently,” said FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford. “This funding does more than just rebuild runways and taxiways, it modernizes the travel experience for American families, ensuring our airports are safe and ready for the future.”
