Industry Day 2025: Houston Airports lays foundation for future growth
Hundreds gather to explore upcoming infrastructure projects, network with decision-makers and help shape the passenger experience ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Houston Airports welcomed hundreds of industry leaders, contractors, small business owners and innovators to its annual Industry Day event on Monday, June 9, providing a transparent look at more than a dozen upcoming infrastructure projects scheduled between July 2025 and June 2026.
Held at the Humble Civic Center, the standing-room-only event connected decision-makers with potential partners eager to support the airport system’s capital improvement program. From runway rehabilitations to signage upgrades and LED installations, Houston Airports is planning major investments across George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and Ellington Airport (EFD).
“Industry Day is where vision meets opportunity,” said Jim Szczesniak, director of aviation for Houston Airports. “We’re preparing our airports for a future of record-setting passenger traffic, seamless technology and world-class experiences for our passengers and Houstonians. And none of that happens without strong partnerships.”

Attendees gained early insights into upcoming projects, including runway improvements, upgrades to the Subway and Skyway at IAH, restroom renovations at HOU and modernizing parking garages at IAH and HOU. The Industry Day project presentations included background, scope, trades, timeline and potential budgets.
Scott Hill, deputy director of infrastructure for Houston Airports, emphasized that strong planning today ensures a smoother tomorrow. Hill spoke of the airport system’s intent to deliver local and federally funded projects on time and on budget.
From Q&A sessions to networking with airport executives, the atmosphere buzzed with possibility. “Industry Day isn’t just about contracts,” said Hill. “It’s about building relationships that fuel innovation and ensure Houston’s airports remain global leaders.”
Szczesniak added, “If we do not provide good facilities and infrastructure that is safe, clean, sustainable and modern, our passengers will choose another airport to connect through when traveling around the world.”
The event also emphasized the airport system’s dedication to engaging small and minority-owned businesses. Representatives from the Houston Airports Office of Business Opportunity and Supply Chain Management Division were on-site to answer questions and connect entrepreneurs with certification resources.
“Our airports are a major economic engine for the region,” Szczesniak said. “We’re excited about the 2026 World Cup and are focused on Houston serving as the hub for soccer fans. Why are we investing in growth? Because the FAA predicts that Houston Airports will double its passenger total by 2050. We need to expand now to avoid growing pains later.”
