HOUSTON — Sometimes, what a mother wants most is a quiet place to take their child. Now, mothers traveling through William P. Hobby Airport have that essential dedicated space.

Recently, a portable mothers’ room — from Mamava — opened near the food court in the central concourse at Hobby Airport. Available 24 hours a day, the unit is big enough for two seats, two changing tables, plus AC and USB power outlets available to plug in breast-pumping machines or to plug in portable devices.

The room can be accessed through code provided through the Mamava app. Information on the app and how to download it on a mobile device or smart phone is available on the unit door.

Once accessed, it provides a quiet, softly lit place for mothers looking to breast feed privately, change diapers or even sit quietly with their child away from the daily hustle and bustle of the airport.

“Part of being a 4-star facility is recognizing the needs of all of our passengers and providing the kinds of facilities and services that help make their traveling experience a positive one,” said Liliana Rambo, the general manager at Hobby Airport. “For traveling mothers, this special unit provides a dedicated space for their specific and special needs, and we are committed to ensuring their needs are met.”

The Mamava unit will remain in place even after a project to construct a dedicated permanent Mothers’ Room is completed later this year.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport also has five such permanent rooms, each equipped at minimum with an AC and USB power outlet, a table, and nursing glider chairs for the comfort of mothers and babies. Most rooms comfortably accommodate three mothers at a time, additional children, changing tables and an area to temporarily store strollers.

IAH offers four private nursing rooms for traveling mothers:

  • Terminal A, between gate A2 and The Breakfast Klub
  • Terminal A, near gate A17
  • Terminal C, across from gate C4
  • Terminal C, inside the women's restroom, across from gate C4

In addition, nurseries with baby crib and rocking chair are available in Terminals B and D:

  • Terminal B, upstairs on the way to gates B85-B88
  • Terminal D, next to the Chapel, between the KLM Crown Lounge and the British Airways Lounge, opposite gates D8-D9. The Terminal D nursery also has a private restroom.
