Spirit Airlines offering two new Latin America destinations from Bush Airport beginning in September

Spirit adding year-round service to San Salvador and Guatemala City

June 26, 2018

HOUSTON — Spirit Airlines’ growth at George Bush Intercontinental Airport took another step forward with the announcement of two new non-stop Latin America destinations planned for September.

Beginning Sept. 6, 2018, Spirit will begin year-round service to San Salvador, with flights three days per week connecting Bush Airport with Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport in El Salvador. The next day, Sept. 7, 2018, the low-cost carrier will begin non-stop service three days per week connecting Bush Airport with La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, Guatemala. That flight will expand to four-days-per-week service beginning in November.

“Spirit Airlines’ commitment to Houston and the Houston region gets stronger by the day,” said Molly Waits, Director of Air Service Development for the Houston Airport System. “Spirit recognizes the opportunities associated with an economy as dynamic as Houston’s. They’ve already proven their commitment to an aggressive growth strategy on the domestic front, and now they’ve proven their commitment to international growth with this expansion of affordable flight options to Latin America.”

The new routes complement Spirit’s existing international service between Houston and Cancun and San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, as well as San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The two new routes are set to strengthen Spirit’s growing network while capitalizing on Houston’s diverse travel needs. The announcement comes just weeks after Spirit announced it was launching nearly a dozen routes from Orlando, Florida to Latin America and the Caribbean.

“The addition of San Salvador and Guatemala City to our Houston destination list will provide our guests more options to visit loved ones and experience all of what these amazing regions have to offer,” said Mark Kopczak, Spirit Airlines’ Vice President of Network Planning. “Spirit continues to prove itself as a leader in travel to Latin America and the Caribbean by offering ultra-low fares allowing more to take advantage of our reliable service.”

These latest additions bolster Spirit’s status as one of the busiest air carriers operating out of Bush Airport, adding to a non-stop service roster that includes domestic flights to Chicago-O’Hare, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New Orleans, Orlando, and San Diego.
