HOUSTON — Officials from The Bahamas, Bahamasair and the Houston Airport System were on hand to celebrate the inaugural flight between George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, Bahamas, on Nov. 16, 2017.

The twice-a-week nonstop service between Houston and Nassau offers Houston travelers looking for a quick and easy island getaway a new connection to one of the top tourism destinations in the Caribbean. The route will run every Monday and Thursday morning, leaving Houston at 8 a.m. and arriving at Nassau at 11:10 a.m., and return service from Nassau back to Houston will run every Sunday and Wednesday, departing Pindling International at 4 p.m. and arriving at Bush Airport by 7:10 p.m.

Lynden B. Rose, Honorary Consul to The Bahamas in Houston and the Southwest region of the United States, Orville “Tommy” Turnquest, Chairman of Bahamasair, Prescott Young, Area Manager for the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, and Ted Kitchens, General Manager of Bush Airport, offered remarks before a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and a water cannon salute as the flight left the gate.

“Bahamasair is a fantastic addition to the roster of airlines providing service to those great leisure destinations, and will help us grow on the more than 3.5 million passengers served traveling to the islands and Latin America from Houston in 2016,” Kitchens said. “And, surely, the service between Houston and Nassau will help strengthen that connection, and help Houston push beyond the record 20.5 million visitors overall who traveled to Houston in 2016.”

Bahamasair is offering a special introductory rate of $445 round trip including taxes, making an island getaway inexpensive and convenient for the holidays. Passengers will receive complimentary refreshments, snacks, and their first bag checked free aboard a Boeing 737-500 Series Aircraft. Bahamasair offers connections to thirteen Bahamas Out Islands including Grand Bahama, Abaco, Eleuthera, Bimini and Exuma.
