September 11, 2017

President Trump arrived at Ellington Airport via Air Force One on Saturday, Sept. 2 to survey the damage and destruction left by Hurricane Harvey.

The President spoke with evacuees and volunteers at the George R. Brown Convention Center, the NRG stadium and local shelters.

During an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Mayor Sylvester Turner said the meeting with President Trump was a “very productive meeting.” Mayor Turner noted that Houston needs both “rapid repair housing” and “advance funding for debris removal.” Mayor Turner said he asked the president “to expand the rapid repair housing program for 15,000 up to 35,000.”

This was President Trump’s first visit to Ellington as commander-in-chief.
