The United Services Organizations (USO) at George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) and William P. Hobby (HOU) airports offer members of the U.S. military and their families not only a comfortable, rest and relaxation area — with snacks and refreshments free of charge as well as television and computer stations — but also a helping hand for travel related matters.
Assistant Customer Service Manager Ella Ghica believes the relationship between the airport community — including the airlines sand Concessionaires — and the USO lends to a better traveling experience for the members of the military. Whether it is assisting grieving families, helping military members with missed connections or simply providing a friendly face and comfortable area to rest, the USO at Houston Airports and the airport community are ready to help in any way needed.
During Memorial Day—a federal holiday remembering and honoring the military personnel who perished while serving in the United States Armed Forces—the USO organized tributes around the airport including “Never Forget” banners and military flags. Passengers were invited to write messages on the banners.
Ghica states, “It was an honor to be able to make the Memorial Day tribute happen, and it took great team work between USO and IAH management. Thank you to all that made this happen especially the maintenance team at IAH.”
John Royalty the Operations Supervisor at USO IAH said, “We had nothing but excellent feedback from our visitors over the Memorial Day Weekend regarding the wonderful patriotic displays that the airport was so gracious to produce and hang for all to see that we are going to leave one up at our center for the foreseeable future and allow passengers to continue to write messages on them.
