Houston Airports has one of the largest collections of art in the state of Texas.

Twenty years after approval of the City of Houston Civic Art Ordinance, William P. Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental airports are home to more than 300 pieces of art placed throughout the airport terminals and grounds, artworks include everything from sculptures to photographs, predominantly by Texas-based artists.

The ordinance provides funding generated from the airports for permanent art acquisitions and professional conservation treatment for existing works of art in the collection. The program does not use passenger or federal funds.

“The current collection at the airports is both diverse and dynamic, including sculpture (Luis Jimenez), paintings (Al Souza) , drawings (Randy Twaddle), mosaic murals  (Dixie Friend Gay), photography (Libbie Masterson),  video art (Hillerbrand + Magsamen), sound art (Terry Allen), textile art (Ginny Eckley), and even jewelry (Heidi Gerstacker)," Alton Dulaney, Art Program Director and Curator for Houston Airports said. "I am excited to help grow and preserve this cultural treasure for the passengers of the airport as well as the entire city of Houston and surrounding communities.”
