Houston Airports Hosts North Houston Association Subcommittee on Transportation
November 14, 2018

Houston Airports last month hosted the North Houston Association Subcommittee on Transportation.

The North Houston Association exists to identify, advocate for and support projects and initiatives that advance the business environment and improve the quality of life in north Harris and Montgomery counties. One of the committee's 2018 goals is to inform members about all sides of transportation issues to better position them for informed and balanced recommendations and decision-making.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is a major contributor to the regional and global economy. Demand for travel from Houston is increasing and the airport system is challenged with capacity issues.  Airport officials hosted the group and conducted an airside familiarization tour to emphasize the need for infrastrucuture improvements and get a detailed look at those needs. The group of 25 toured runway/taxiway construction sites, aircraft rescue and firefighting station, international cargo inspection area, perishables facility, east cargo, and United Airline’s new maintenance facility.

"The tour gave us a unique opportunity to support leadership in North Houston with a first-hand look at one of the region's ecomomic engines and some of the improvements and challenges at IAH," said Houston Airports Director of Government Relations Tim Joniec.
