National Volunteer Week was observed April 19-25 to promote and show appreciation for volunteerism. Houston Airports (HAS) said a heartfelt THANK YOU to each of the HAS Volunteer Ambassadors who have served as a part of the airport system’s Customer Service Team. In late March, the Houston Airports Ambassador Program was suspended indefinitely due to low volunteer availability that resulted from the COVID-19 threat. However, the invaluable contributions of this team are worthy of celebration and acknowledgement!
Prior to the suspension of the program, HAS was privileged to have 140 Airport Volunteer Ambassadors and 11 Pet Therapy Volunteers.
“The excellence and the selflessness of these volunteers year-round is a great driver of our success,” said Viorica “Ella” Ghica, HAS Customer Service Manager at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).
“We applaud them for demonstrating day after day, to person after person, the spirit and the heart that puts our customers first.”
The program will return, and the volunteers will be back at information booths, baggage claim levels, and walking the floors within each of the IAH and William P. Hobby (HOU) airport terminals. Their singular goal – helping customers in need!
“When that time comes,” Ghica said, “please take a minute to let them know how much we appreciate their outstanding support.”
Liliana Rambo, HAS’s Chief Terminal Management Officer, said that HAS Airport Volunteer Ambassadors help immensely by providing premium customer service to the airport system’s passengers and patrons. “They provide five-star service and ensure that the experience in our airport terminals is one that wows all by the remarkable quality, enthusiasm, and professionalism with which they go about their days.”
“We’re grateful for their contributions.”
Author H. Jackson Brown said, “Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.”
“When it comes to our volunteers, we wholeheartedly agree,” said Trai Hicks, Assistant Customer Service Manager at HOU.
HAS Director Mario Diaz suspended the program as a part of a proactive response to COVID-19. HAS continues to prioritize the health and safety of the traveling public and HAS employees.
