Flight Safety International Hosts Airport Interns
August 1, 2016

The Houston Airport System is supporting Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Hire Houston Youth program by exposing 49 students to careers in aviation.

Recently, 10 interns with assignments at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) were invited to Flight Safety International’s Houston campus. Flight Safety International is the world’s premier professional aviation training company and supplier of flight simulators, visual systems and displays to commercial, government and military organizations.

The interns were given the unique opportunity to practice piloting an aircraft via a state-of-the-art FS1000 simulator, which replicates an aircraft’s flying characteristics. The interns simulated flight to various cities including New York, Denver, Las Vegas and even international destinations like Bogotá, Colombia.  The exercise included piloting a flight around each destination to view the skyline and ensuring a smooth landing.

The internship program began June 13 and runs through August 5. At the end of the program, the interns will present a final project that will build their presentation skills and can also be used to showcase their readiness for future job and educational opportunities.
