Cargo agents, freight forwarders and logistics managers can enjoy the benefits of one of the world's finest air cargo facilities at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), one of the busiest international cargo gateways.
The cargo facility has the capacity to handle perishables, oilfield equipment, computers, auto parts and other vital shipments safely and efficiently.
A continuing $3.1 billion renovation of the facilities through the Houston Airport System (HAS) included a new $180 million air cargo distribution center. Improved runways, taxiways and ground access provide stronger links in the chain resulting in faster and more efficient movement of pallets and crates.
IAH now offers one million square feet of cargo space in two separate areas of the airport:
• IAH Central Cargo and the state-of-the-art IAH Cargo Center.
The buildings at these cargo centers were designed, constructed and funded by different third party developers:
• Aeroterm, a leading provider of air cargo facilities at Bush Intercontinental Airport, expanded in 2007 with new facilities in the IAH Cargo Center. Additionally, Aeroterm leases building space in the adjacent IAH Central Cargo area.
• Industrial Properties Corporation(IPC), one of the oldest developers of industrial parks and now part of GE Capital Real Estate, is the building manager for one of the main facilities in the new IAH Cargo Center.
• Trammell Crow Company, one of the United State’s leading developers and investors in real estate, along ING Clarion, the U.S. investment management and development arm of ING Real Estate, developed Fresh Air Cargo – IAH. This new facility establishes George Bush Intercontinental Airport as a major gateway for temperature and time-sensitive air cargo.
“IAH Cargo Center was crucial to continuing the expansion of cargo activity at IAH," said HAS marketing director Genaro Peña. "The development of the entire 165-acre cargo complex and the unique public/private partnership between HAS and the different real estate developers has tripled the airport's cargo capacity."
Growing demand for air cargo services in Houston and Southeast Texas drove the development of the $180 million air cargo complex.
The air cargo and combination carriers on the Cargo Airlines page provide freighter service at Bush Intercontinental Airport.
In addition to these, many of the passenger carriers and a number of charter air cargo airlines serve the airport.
|Our special consideration for customer convenience makes shipping through the Bush Intercontinental Airport Air Cargo Distribution Center a hassle free experience. Cargo carriers experience little or no wait at IAH. Advanced computer technology helps U.S. Customs clear cargo while the cargo is still in the air, reducing red tape, speeding up shipment delivery and ultimately, saving shippers money. For cargo shippers who have not already precleared their cargo before arrival, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and U.S. Customs teams are available to inspect freight.
Also located on the airport is a full service animal/plant inspection facility. IAH is one of the few airports in the U.S. certified to clear propagative plant materials and seeds from foreign countries. Furthermore, new technologies to better identify insects and plant diseases will be available at this airport soon.
Other advantages of the Bush Intercontinental Airport Air Cargo Distribution Center include: the airport's access to U.S. foreign trade zones, allowing duty-free storage; manufacturing and processing of imported goods; ample, reasonably priced warehouse and office space available at the airport; hydrant fueling; a 24-hour, seven day a week postal center; and a livestock export facility.
