Cathay Pacific unveils plans for historic new Houston-Hong Kong all cargo service
Beginning on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, Cathay Pacific Airways will launch three weekly, all-cargo flights to Hong Kong from Houston. This historic new service will mark the first scheduled all cargo service to Hong Kong from Houston and will become the fourth scheduled Asian, all cargo service from George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Increased passenger and air cargo traffic for HAS The month of March added another four million passengers to the volume of travelers served by the Houston Airport System in 2008, bringing the year-to-date passenger traffic total to more than 12 million. International passenger traffic continued on an upward swing with a year-over-year increase of 11.4 percent, during the same month.

Expedited screening, processing for pre-screened international travelers coming next month at George Bush Intercontinental Airport Beginning this month, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is accepting applications for its recently announced Global Entry pilot program, which is scheduled to launch this summer. Global Entry is designed to expedite the screening and processing of low-risk, frequent international “trusted” travelers entering the United States.

Grammys to bring Latino star power to Houston Nominees and attendees for the 9th annual Latin Grammy Awards have not yet been revealed, but if the past eight celebrations of the Latin Recording Academy’s Grammy Awards are any indication, Houston is in for a major party on November 13, 2008 – to the sound of a Latin beat. Past attendees include the likes of Hollywood heavyweights like Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony, Shakira, Houston’s own Beyonce Knowles and Christina Aguilera.

Houston’s airports sign global commitment on climate change In partnership with Airports Council International, the Houston Airport System commits to continue improving the environment. Taking one additional step towards environmental responsibility, the Houston Airport System, today, in partnership with Airports Council International signed a Declaration on Climate Change at the Aviation and Environment Summit being held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Airport authorities prepare for an aircraft emergency Do not be alarmed if on Saturday, May 17, 2008, you witness smoke and emergency vehicles blazing through the airfield of William P. Hobby Airport. Houston’s second-largest airport will be hosting a routine emergency drill in compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration’s safety requirements.

Employers of local reservists Walk the Line They weren’t trying to turn the tide and the experience definitely opened their eyes. Like the song made famous by Johnny Cash, local employers Walked the Line in honor of their active employees serving in military battlefield’s across the globe. On the shores of Galveston Island, dozens of supervisors and managers from across the Houston area met up, this past month, with members of the United States Coast Guard for their community outreach effort known as SEALIFT.

A traveling exhibit at Hobby Airport showcases what lies in Houston’s backyard The Houston Wilderness Nature Traveling Exhibit, temporarily displayed at William P. Hobby Airport, is giving passengers and Houstonians an enlightening lesson on what the city really has to offer. With over 8.8 million passengers traveling through Hobby Airport in 2007, the airport serves as a perfect space to reach passengers and Houstonians that are unaware such things exist in the region.
