Facts about the Houston Passenger Market

  1. Passenger aircraft as well as dedicated, scheduled and chartered air cargo freighters fly approximately 110 domestic and nearly 70 international destinations within 32 countries from Houston. Bush Intercontinental Airport ranks third in the United States in nonstop destinations served, with nonstop service to nearly 175 international and domestic markets.

  2. IAH, Houston’s largest airport and the largest hub for Continental Airlines, offers daily non-stop and direct flights to major cities in Europe, Mexico, Latin America and Asia. IAH also offers a weekly passenger charter flight to Luanda, and Angola in Africa.  HOU handles domestic passengers for five airlines and is a key operating hub for Southwest Airlines. EFD is a commerce and aviation center that also serves as a base of operations for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and corporate charters, as well as several other federal agencies.

  3. IAH is ranked as the 11th-largest international air cargo gateway in the United States and remains in the top 20 nationally for total air cargo volume.

  4. IAH is the U.S.'s 5th largest international passenger gateway based on destinations, service more than 7.8 million international passengers in 2009.
