Facts about the Houston Passenger Market

  1. In passenger volume, the Houston Airport System (HAS) ranks as the fourth-largest multi-airport system in the United States and the sixth-largest in the world. HAS is comprised by George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and Ellington Airport (EFD).

  2. Passenger aircraft as well as dedicated, scheduled and chartered air cargo freighters fly approximately 110 domestic and 65 international destinations within 31 countries from Houston. Bush Intercontinental Airport ranks third in the United States in nonstop destinations served, with nonstop service to nearly 175 international and domestic markets.

  3. IAH, Houston’s largest airport and the largest hub for Continental Airlines, offers daily non-stop and direct flights to major cities in Europe, Mexico, Latin America and Asia. IAH also offers a weekly passenger charter flight to Luanda, Angola in Africa and the Middle East.  HOU, Houston's original municipal airport, handles domestic passengers for five airlines and is a key operating hub for Southwest Airlines. EFD is a joint-use military and civilian airport and serves as a base of operations for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and corporate charters, as well as several other federal agencies.

  4. IAH is ranked as the 11th-largest international air cargo gateway in the United States and remains in the top 20 nationally for total air cargo volume.

  5. IAH is also ranked as the 8th-largest U.S. mainland gateway airport for international passengers.
