International traffic at IAH growing at a double-digit rate.
Mexico, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Canada and the United States all saw significant increases in passenger traffic from Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) as Houston’s largest airport closed the month of April with an impressive, year-over-year, 15.2 percent increase in international passenger traffic.
Year-to-date, the amount of international passengers traveling through IAH has increased by 5.7 percent, in comparison to the same timeframe the previous year – this on-top of the 10.5 percent year-over-year increase in domestic travel registered by IAH for the month.
Total passenger traffic for the Houston Airport System (HAS), meanwhile, increased by 9.1 percent for the month of April and 7.4 percent for the year-to-date.
Among the most notably well-performing airlines for the month were Aeromexico (+10.29 percent year-over-year), Air France (+24.95 percent), British Airways (+16.5 percent), Pakistan International Airlines (+67.31 percent), Frontier Airlines (+13.67 percent) and Southwest Airlines (+5.1 percent).
All the international regions served by IAH registered significant increases during the month of April: Central and South America (+38.2 percent), Mexico (+8.4 percent), Europe (+5.9 percent), Canada (+5.7 percent) and Asia, Africa and Australia (+5.5 percent).
HAS also closed the month with very impressive growth in air freight poundage – international air cargo increased, year-over-year, by 27.3 percent in April 2006. Total air cargo traffic for the airport system increased by 8.4 percent during the same month; year-to-date growth reaching 4.2 percent.
