Air cargo traffic increasing at Houston’s airports.
Three months into the new year, air cargo traffic at the Houston Airport System (HAS) is increasing at an impressive rate – the bulk of that growth is in the international market.
During the month of March 2006 total air freight at HAS increased by 7.6 percent, in comparison to the same timeframe in 2005. Year-to-date air cargo traffic is up by 2.7 percent.
This significant increase is fueled by considerable growth in international regions such as Central and South America (+33.1 percent year-over-year for the month of March 2006), Europe (+17 percent) and Asia, Africa and Australia (+21.8). International freight poundage at Bush Intercontinental (IAH) for the month of March is up by 17.1 percent year-over-year.
Top-performing cargo freighters, both belly and all-cargo carriers, for the month include Aeromexico (+29.86 percent), British Airways (+22.41 percent), China Airlines (+16.8 percent) and Pakistan International Airlines (+137.55 percent).
Passenger traffic in March continues to increase. In comparison to the same month in 2005, total passenger traffic at HAS increased by 3.8 percent for the month of March and year-to-date total passenger traffic is up by 6.8 percent at the airport system's three airports combined.
