Both domestic and international passenger traffic is increasing at Bush Intercontinental (IAH) and William P. Hobby airports. Houston’s two primary commercial airports registered impressive growth for the second month of 2006.

Fueled by the strength of the local market, domestic passenger traffic at IAH increased at a double-digit rate both for the month of February and for the year-to-date. Compared to the same timeframe last year, domestic travel at Houston’s largest airport increased by 10.6 percent, both for the second month of this year and for the year-to-date.

Trailing close behind, Hobby Airport’s domestic passenger traffic increased, year-over-year, by 6.5 percent for the month of February and 6 percent for the year-to-date.

International passenger traffic at the Houston Airport System (HAS) also increased. For the month of February, HAS registered 3.8 percent more international traffic than during the same month last year.

Strong increases in travel to and from Central/South America and Canada (13.4 percent and 10.3 percent for the month, respectively) accounted for a large part of this growth.

Among the top-performing airlines for the month were Continental Airlines (+7.2 percent year-over-year), Air France (+22.02 percent), and Pakistan International Airlines (+41.46 percent) at IAH; and Southwest Airlines (+8 percent) and American, American Eagle and American Connection Airlines combined (+11.2 percent) at Hobby Airport.
