For most it was their first encounter with a live performance in an airport terminal.

Many passengers were star-struck as country music superstar Phil Vassar made his way onto center stage at Hobby Airport’s Central Concourse last week. Fans stopped the chart-topping music star before he began his 30-minute performance for autographs and pictures inside Houston’s second-largest airport.

Vassar was performing in celebration of Southwest Airline’s 35th birthday anniversary.

Southwest is the primary carrier at Hobby Airport and together with the Houston Airport System management team put together the innovative birthday celebration in honor of their long-standing commercial aviation partnership.

After delivering an electrifying performance Vassar signed more autographs for adoring fans, played games with passengers at Southwest’s celebratory booths and traveled out to the Hobby airfield to taxi in a Southwest aircraft.

“Southwest has been a wonderful business partner and a tremendous addition to the Hobby network of air service providers,” said airport manager Mary Case.

Before performing in Houston Vassar began his day, on June 16th, with a performance in Nashville, Tenn. – the country star also performed in Austin and in Dallas on Southwest Airline’s 35th anniversary.
