Ellington Field – the Houston Airport System’s joint-use civil/military, noncommercial airport – also showed signs of positive growth during the month of January 2006.

Overall, total passenger traffic at the sixth-largest airport system in the world, the Houston Airport System (HAS) increased by 8.1 percent year-over-year during the month of January 2006. This, just one month after closing 2005 with a record-setting 48 million passengers served.

Ellington Field also registered a significant increase of 54.3 percent in total aircraft operations at its facility for the same month, in comparison to the same timeframe in 2005.

In terms of international travel, IAH registered a year-over-year increase of 3.3 percent for the same month. British Airways and Air France were among the top-performing international airlines that accounted for this increase; each with respective year-over-year increases of 16.3 percent and 18.3 percent.

Among the top-performing airlines with domestic service for the month were Continental Airlines at Bush Intercontinental, with a year-over-year increase of 10.9 percent; and Southwest Airlines at Hobby, with an increase of 8.2 percent.
