The Federal Aviation Administration, Texas Airports Development Office has selected the Houston Airport System as Airport of the Year for 2005. Among the reasons for this accolade were the airport system
' s capital improvement program, its overall global importance and the aid it rendered to neighboring airports during Hurricanes Rita and Katrina Read Story

ATA the latest entrant into the burgeoning Houston market
Fresh off a record-setting year that served some 48 million passengers and moved more than 347,000 metric tons of air cargo in 2005, the Houston Airport System , this month , celebrated the inauguration of ATA Airlines at William P. Hobby Airport . As passengers from the 9:30am New York-to-Houston flight made their way off the 737 aircraft, they were greeted by a friendly crowd of Houstonians who were quick to offer a little taste of Texas hospitality. Bridging the gap between East and West


For many in attendance at the recent Beijing International Travel and Tourism Market (BITTM) event in China the highlight of the occasion was learning more about the Lone Star state. Delegates from the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Texas Tourism Delegation, the Texas Economic Development Delegation and the Houston Airport System were among those at the event that bridged the gap between eastern interest and western appeal. IAH is now the 9th busiest airport in the nation
According to the latest 2005 traffic figures released by Airports Council International Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport is now the nation’s 9th busiest airport in the number of passengers served annually. Last year, the 7th largest international gateway in the United States - combined with Hobby Airport - served a record 48 million passengers. Read Story

A group of local business and community leaders who support and encourage the continued success of Houston ’s three main airports have joined together to form a new regional and independent organization known as Friends of the Airport. The members of Friends of the Airport are strong advocates for maintaining and expanding the airports’ competitiveness to attract new jobs and business opportunities for the Greater Houston economy. Bush Intercontinental recognized again for superior air cargo-handling

In performance, value, facilities and regulatory operations for air cargo management few other airports in the world compares to Bush Intercontinental Airport; this according to the readers of the internationally-circulated Air Cargo World magazine. For the second consecutive year, this month, IAH was selected as the recipient of the ACE Award for Excellence .

Ellington Field honored as a historical landmark
Today, the now joint-use civil/military airport was honored with the unveiling of a historical marker by the Texas Historical Commission for its contributions to the war effort during the Second World War. Among the crowd of spectators at the unveiling of the historical marker were community members, active military personnel, a multitude of war veterans and elected officials. Read Story
