Program Objectives:
o Designed for airport operations and management personnel o To provide professional knowledge and on-the-job-site internship experiences o Job sites are arranged at airports comprising the Houston Airport System, the premium international gateway and 6th largest airport system in the world
Program Activities:
o Overview of HAS management and operational philosophy o Familiarization with HAS organizational structure, policies and operational procedures o Fields of hands-on work experience include airport operations, airport maintenance, and airport customer services and administration (see Fields of Airport Operations for detailed roles and functions) o Visits at associated fields include public safety, fueling, food catering, parking, rental car facility operations and maintenance, and ARFF (aircraft rescue and fire fighting)

o Operations Communication Center • Paging, radio & telecommunications • Gate control & maintenance dispatch Operations • Landside, airside & construction coordination
o Air Cargo Enforce third party developer and tenant compliance with federal, state and city rules and regulations Liaison between tenants, vendors, and HAS Schedule aircraft movements on HAS Ramp and Apron areas
o International Services VIP assistance with international guests and medical patients Information booths Assignment of international ticket counters, gates & baggage carousels
o Airfield and Grounds General cleaning of exterior non-contracted areas of the airport Grounds-keeping of Aircraft Operating Area (AOA), airport access roads and ranger horse trail & pavement maintenance

o Physical Plant Maintenance Mechanical Section Weld shop Door shop Key shop Sign shop Craft / carpentry shop Paint shop
o Building Services General housecleaning of interior non-contract areas of airport Trash removal Equipment maintenance Hazards monitoring
o Electric Systems Power distribution to airport terminals, Administration Building, Airport Services Complex (ASC), and AOA runways and taxiways Boulevard lighting Variable Message System (VMS) Storm water lift stations
o Technical Systems Access Control Equipment (Badge readers) Security camera equipment: Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Public address paging system equipment Fire monitor and control equipment Flight Information Displays System (FIDS) Vehicle gates on AOA Vehicle gates to Airport-owned parking facilities
o Airport Customer Services & Administration
o Facilities Administration Inspect and monitor operations and maintenance contractors, including HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), Fleet, ITT, APM Contract administration
o Ground Transportation Airport use permits and registration Automated Vehicle Identification (AVI) Taxi Cab Staging Limousine Staging Bus Staging Curb Zone configuration Shuttle Services
Program Duration & Location:
o Duration 3 months
o Location Coaching, hands-on work experience, and site tours will be at HAS and affiliates’ sites Familiarization excursions may be conducted both within Houston and/or in surrounding areas
Number of Participants:
o Minimum of 2 , or maximum of 4 applicants, are required; applicants from airports unable to send the required minimum may be integrated with members from other airports
Applicant Requirements:
o Internship applicants must possess sufficient English proficiency that allows them to communicate at work and receive training in English o Internship applicants must obtain international medical and accident insurance covering the period throughout the entire program o Internship applicants must pass a ten-year background check for airport badge issuance that allows access to restricted area at airports
