New perishable cargo facility ready to rise at George Bush Intercontinental Airport
February 14, 2006

Trammell Crow Company, a Dallas based corporate real estate company, has signed an agreement with the Houston Airport System (HAS) to build the latest expansion to Bush Intercontinental Airport’s (IAH) already impressive air cargo handling infrastructure.

The new International Air CargoCentre II – an approximately 60,000 square foot perishable cargo handling facility - will be located on-airport in the IAH CargoCenter and offer direct ramp access for cargo airlines as well as importers and distributors of perishable goods. Trammell Crow Company is committed to custom design the facility to meet the operational requirements of prospective tenants.

The International Air CargoCentre II will be ideal for the import of perishable products. Its future tenants will enjoy the convenience of the Federal Inspection Services Center – a one stop shop housing all federal inspection agencies – located next to the perishables facility. This new resource will offer excellent access to all major highways serving IAH.

“As the nation’s fourth largest city and the South Central United States’ dominant international business center, Houston’s prime geographic location and its position as a primary gateway to Latin America make IAH an ideal destination for cargo, logistics and distribution,” said Luis Perez HAS deputy director.

“Houston serves a population of over 30 million people within a six hour drive radius. The region’s strong consumer demand for perishable products combined with its high value exports to South and Central America make it the logical choice for importation and distribution of perishables throughout the United States,” commented Steven Bradford, Trammell Crow Company principal of airport development. “The new International Air CargoCentre II will create and accommodate new growth opportunities for growers and importers all over the world. We are proud to be HAS’ development partner on this exciting project.”

This project is an example of the HAS’ innovative use of third party developers for the improvement and construction of certain airport infrastructure – reducing risk and speeding development.
