The Houston Airport System (HAS) has appointed Perry Miller, 42, airport manager of Ellington Field (EFD). His latest assignment before accepting his new position was in HAS' properties division.
Miller was born in Chicago, but has lived in Houston “long enough to be a Texan,” he said. He graduated from Bellaire High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in aviation management from Texas Southern University. The coursework included an internship with HAS’s public service section.
“I’ve had 15 years of service with HAS,” Miller said. “The opportunities I’ve had have given me lots of insights in terms of future developments. I’m familiar with all the areas operations that help an airport thrive.”
Miller has served in parking, ground transportation, airfield & grounds, in supervisor’s and assistant superintendent’s roles, with assignments at Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby Airports.
While fulfilling those duties, Miller returned to TSU and completed his Master’s Degree in transportation planning & management in August 1996. He also qualified for accredited status in the American Association of Airport Executives in March 2003.
EFD is a joint-use civil/military airport, acquired in 1984 by HAS after it was known as Ellington Air Force Base. EFD supports military and NASA operations, plus general aviation tenants. It is located 15 miles south of downtown Houston, less than two miles east of I-45.
