One aircraft, 47 horses and a horse whisperer made for an unforgettable experience at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) today, as the stars of the critically acclaimed grand–scale spectacle known as Cavalia made their way into Houston aboard a 747 aircraft.

The 47 Canadian-based equines, all slated to perform next week in the theatrical circus Cirque du Soleil, traveled the last leg of their journey from New York to Houston aboard a Polar Air Cargo charter plane. For the first part of their journey the animals were trucked from Canada into New York – their trainer, or horse whisperer, always by their side.

As the animals were moved from the Polar aircraft into the caravan of horse trailers that were waiting for them outside the IAH CargoCenter, staff from the Houston Airport System’s (HAS) one-stop-shop cargo clearance facility eased their arrival by conducting their federally-required inspections on the airfield.

For HAS management, today’s extraordinary arrival was only more proof that Houston’s three municipally-owned airports can handle any type of operation. IAH is the 11th-largest international air cargo hub in the United States and ranks among the top 25 airports in the country with the most total air cargo volume.
