Houston's airports ready for Christmas and New Year's

HOUSTON (December 19, 2005) - George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports will welcome about 1.7 million passengers during the extended Christmas and New Year's holiday travel period Thursday, Dec. 22 through Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Visitors to Bush Intercontinental and Hobby are reminded that:

  • At curbside, whether dropping off or picking up, police and security officers will enforce the "active loading & unloading procedure." Occupants of any vehicle at curbside must be in the process of getting in, getting out, putting luggage in or taking it out. Otherwise, they will have to get in the car and drive away from the ramp.

  • Experienced travelers and airport visitors familiar with the routine should be patient with those around them who are not as familiar and move slower through the ticketing and checkpoint processes. All passengers and visitors should allow more time to get where they intend to go and to do what they intend to do.

  • To make it easier to get holiday gifts to your destination send them rather than carrying them in your luggage if possible, and wait until you arrive at your destination to giftwrap them. Screeners are likely to remove the wrapping as you pass through the checkpoint.

  • Always check with the airline about a flight's status.

  • If you are picking up a passenger at Bush Intercontinental and the flight is late, use one the two Cell Phone Lots. You can wait there, free, saving gas and avoiding traffic tie-ups. When your passenger has his or her baggage in hand, he or she can call you on your mobile phone, and you can proceed to curbside for pickup.

  • If you prefer to use the city-owned parking facilities at either airport, the rates are $1 for 90 minutes, and $2 for 3 hours.
