Houston's Bush Intercontinental Ranked #1 For On-Time Performance

HOUSTON - As far as on-time arrivals and on-time departures are concerned, no other major airport in the country has a higher rate of on-time performance than the Houston Airport System's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). This, according to the latest On-Time Performance Report released this month by the United States Department of Transportation.

The report, released Aug. 4, surveyed the nation's top 33 major airports for on-time arrival and departure performances through June 2005 and found that IAH ranked as the #1 performer in all four rating categories: on-time departures and arrivals for the month of June 2005, and on-time arrivals and departures year-to-date through the same month.

“We finalized our $3.1 billion Capital Improvement Program earlier this year and now we're reaping the benefits of having invested wisely. Airport operations have improved dramatically as a result and this study reflects that,” said Richard Vacar, director of the Houston Airport System.

In comparison to June 2004, the number of on-time departures increased by 15 percent in June 2005. For the entire year-to-date, on-time departures are also up compared to the first six months of 2004.

On-time arrivals also rose dramatically from year to year. In June 2004, IAH was the #32 on-time arrival performer, compared to its current top ranking for on-time arrivals for the same month this year (an increase of 26 percent). Year-to-date, the airport improved from #23 in 2004 to #1 in 2005 (+6.4 percent) for on-time arrivals.
