Community Affairs

The Houston Airport System (HAS) Community Affairs group develops and implements ongoing community outreach programs designed to optimize effective two-way communications with various publics.

Community Outreach

Community and Special Events

In addition to hosting its own airport-related special events, the Houston Airport System supports its communities by sponsoring and participating in selected industry- and aviation-related community events. The division's involvement includes staffing exhibits at and publicizing events that tie into the airport's activities and help increase awareness of HAS’ community outreach and educational programs and services.

Affiliations with Chambers of Commerce/Civic Organizations

Community Affairs representatives maintain a strong community presence by representing the Houston Airport System at various functions of local chambers of commerce and other community organizations. In addition, HAS conducts tailored airport briefings and behind-the-scenes tours for business groups; offers a speaker for community events; and provides articles for chamber newsletters upon request.

Speakers Bureau

This community outreach program offers presentations to community, business and civic organizations at their locations. Topics cover all aspects of HAS including history and overview, economic impact, airport master plans, airport operations, public safety, small business outreach, air service development, passenger services, and more. To request a speaker, Click Here.

Airport Tours

Tours are available at no charge to groups such as civic associations, schools, scouting organizations, church clubs, etc. Our tours provide a close-up look at Houston's airports and how they operate. We can customize a tour to fit the interest of different groups. Tours will last 1˝ to 2 hours during normal business hours, and are available to both adults and children (7 years and older). Advance reservations are required. For more information, Click Here.

Airport Assistance Program

Houston is truly an international city with 86 consulates, the 3rd largest representation in the United States. The Houston Airport System has an ongoing airport assistance program for diplomatic officials such as heads of state, government ministers or cabinet members, diplomats of ambassador rank or above, and Houston-based consular heads of post. The HAS Community Affairs group works closely with the Houston International Protocol Alliance.

Support for Local Education

Career Day Participation

HAS participates in Houston-area schools’ career day activities, and introduces students to the field of aviation in a fun atmosphere. We encourage teachers and school officials to contact us with ideas and suggestions on how we can support their educational goals.

Congratulations to the winners of the Hobby Airport Art Contest winners

Students from across the Greater Houston Metropolitan region competed for the chance to showcase their artwork to the 8.5 plus million passengers that pass through Houston's second largest airport each year.
