Qatar Airways unveils Houston as newest USA route

Qatar Airways today announced plans to strengthen its presence in North America by adding the southern US city of Houston to its growing international network later this year. Beginning November 10, the Doha-based airline will launch three flights a week non-stop to Houston using its brand new Boeing 777-200 Long Range aircraft. Frequency will rise to daily a few weeks later in December 2008.

More increases in the New Year for HAS
Just one month after closing 2007 with record breaking traffic figures - 52 million passengers and over 387,000 metric tons of air cargo, the Houston Airport System is starting off 2008 with even more increases in international passenger and air cargo traffic. Total freight tonnage for HAS grew by more than 6.3 percent, year-over-year, in the first month of 2008.

Singapore Airlines unveils the world’s largest Business Class Seats at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport
A behind the scenes look at the largest and most luxurious business class seats in the aviation world awaits travelers passing through George Bush Intercontinental Airport from Friday, March 7th through Thursday, March 13th, 2008. To celebrate the upcoming launch of Singapore Airlines’ new non-stop Houston-Moscow-Singapore service, which begins on March 20th, the air carrier will unveil this eye-catching display at IAH’s Terminal D, the Mickey Leland International Terminal.

George Bush Intercontinental tops Air Cargo World Excellence Survey again
George Bush Intercontinental Airport is raking in the awards already this year ranking number one in excellence among North American airports handling 499,000 tons or less of air cargo shipments annually, according to a global survey conducted by Air Cargo World. This survey found that IAH is the premier aviation facility in the world based on the ratings submitted by various users of the IAH CargoCenter.

KLM unveils 3,600 square foot lounge at IAH
This month, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines opened its newest 3,600 square foot lounge at George Bush Intercontinental Airport’s Terminal D, after more than 50 years of serving the local region. In 1957, the Dutch airline first began passenger service from Houston to Amsterdam from what was then known Houston Municipal Airport – now William P. Hobby Airport. Today, KLM operates its 13 weekly flights to Amsterdam from George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

New hotline provides latest flight information
In this modern era of iPods and iPhones, the Houston Airport System is taking a rather refreshing – if somewhat old-fashioned – approach to information technology. Their new flight information system is phone-based, rather than internet-supported, which means any landline can access the service. Personal digital assistants or BlackBerry phones need not be applied to connect to the new flight information hotline.

Shelling out for parking
It’s all a numbers game when it comes to the Shell Houston Open and the new parking partnership with the Houston Airport System. There’s going to be plenty of airport parking available for tournament goers at the Parking Cents on-airport value lot at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Tournament patrons can then hop on a shuttle bus for the 10-minute ride over to the Redstone Golf Club, all for a roundtrip fee of $5.00 for adults - free for children.

Next time you go on vacation, give your pets a break too
For years, parents have enjoyed the luxury of checking in on their kids while they are at home with the baby sitter or at a daycare center through the power of baby cams. Now pet owners in Houston will have the opportunity to do the same for their four-legged friends while they are on vacation. The new Pet Paradise Resort, which will open up next to George Bush Intercontinental later this month, takes the trouble out of finding an animal sitter for pet owners traveling.

Global training – Houston, ACI is here
New friendships and a better understanding of the global aviation industry were the two primary lessons learned by participants in the most recent Airports Council International training seminar, held for the first time in Houston at George Bush Intercontinental Airport this month. The weeklong seminar hosted a group of airport executives from four different continents – North and South America, Africa and Europe – in Houston for five days.

Ellington Field goes all out to support US veterans
For the first time in Ellington Field’s 90-plus-year history, the airport is inviting the public to its first annual “Ellington Field Salutes Our Veterans” community celebration on Saturday, April 12, 2008. The fundraiser event will benefit the local nonprofit organization Helping a Hero, which supports severely injured military personnel and their families.

Heli-Expo lands in Houston
Helicopter lovers from across the globe recently gathered at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston to celebrate the largest helicopter conference in the world. They were in town for the annual Heli-Expo 2008, put together by the Helicopter International Association, a non profit organization, who is considered to be the voice of the helicopter industry.
