  In Texas – there’s no place like Houston
The city’s total international trade reached $162 billion in 2006, and since then it has become the 4th largest customs trade district in the nation. In two months, travelers from Houston will have several new options for traveling abroad. Yet a closer look into the city’s current economic standing suggests local businesses will also have many more opportunities in the New Year. According to Houston Mayor Bill White, the city has experienced tremendous growth over the last four years and is poised to continue growing in 2008. Read Story

November adds over four million more passengers and an increase of 8 percent in international air cargo
Preparing for an even busier New Year, Houston’s two primary airports – George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby – closed the month of November 2007 with very impressive growth in passenger and air cargo shipments. In excess of 47 million travelers have already been served by the Houston Airport System, year-to-date. Internationally alone, passenger traffic has increased by a healthy 4.2 percent through the first 11 months of this year, in comparison to the same timeframe in 2006. Read Story

Into the future: robotic sweeper arrives at IAH
Like Rosey the Robot, the Intellibot will work nonstop and will communicate with its human counterparts when it is done. In a single eight hour shift the Intellibot IS800 scrubber can tidy-up roughly 70,000 square feet of floor space utilizing only one, 50 gallon tank of water. With its ultrasonic sensors it can navigate and memorize the floor plan of roughly any area; and in the event of an emergency it will communicate for assistance. Read Story

You’ve rushed from the office to the airport for a routine business trip. Despite all of your best efforts you realize once you’ve checked in, and are past security, that there is one unfinished business matter that requires your immediate attention. Houston’s airports cut back on air travel stress
Poised for another year of record-setting traffic figures, the Houston Airport System is continuing its tradition of working with private and government agencies to make sure air travel in Houston remains as stress-free as possible. Most recently - during the busy holiday travel season - officials at George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports worked closely with federal agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration to get the word out about travel recommendations. Read Story

Splurging at the airport for the troops
Imagine a world with no sales tax – having the ability to walk into a store, purchase as many items as you desire, and not having to worry about calculating how much more your total will be with taxes included. Except for the occasional tax-free weekend before a new school year, for most consumers accounting for sales taxes is a part of life. That extra 8.25 percent at the register, nonetheless, is becoming less and less of a burden for many area residents. Read Story

Sterling students spread their wings at Hobby Airport
Although learning to fly is no small feat, in Houston, students as young as 14 years old are getting a head start on their lifelong ambition of becoming pilots. William P. Hobby Airport is providing the training field for their curriculum and exposing them to real world aviation scenarios. Through a partnership with the Houston Independent School District and airport tenant Flying Tigers, Hobby Airport is providing access to their airfield for students enrolled in the aviation magnet program at Ross Shaw Sterling High School. Boot-scooting time is here: international crowds heading in for Rodeo time
The likes of Elvis Presley, Mary J. Blige, Bon Jovi, Vicki Carr, Johnny Cash, Enrique Iglesias, the Jackson Five, Alicia Keys, Selena, Barry Manilow, Reba McEntire, Diana Ross and Shania Twain are only a few of the international artists that have performed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo since it first began 76 years ago. Billed as the richest regular-season rodeo in the world, Rodeo Houston brings in more than $344 million in positive economic impact to the city each year. It also draws thousands of visitors from across the globe. Read Story

Leaving his Mark,
It’s family and free time from now on for Mark Mancuso, the security hawk who has watched over the Houston Airport System during the past 36 years. December 31, 2007 was the last official day this soft spoken former police captain, who ran the HAS police force for decades, reported to work as the deputy director of public safety and information technology. Read Story
