November adds over four million more passengers and an increase of 8 percent in international air cargo to the Houston Airport System’s total traffic numbers for 2007.

Preparing for an even busier New Year, Houston’s two primary airports – George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby – closed the month of November 2007 with very impressive growth in passenger and air cargo shipments. In excess of 47 million travelers have already been served by the Houston Airport System, year-to-date.

Internationally alone, passenger traffic has increased by a healthy 4.2 percent through the first 11 months of this year, in comparison to the same timeframe in 2006. Central and South America combined; Asia, Africa and Australia combined; and Canada were the international regions that accounted for the bulk of this growth, with respective year-over-year increases of 7.8 percent, 7.7 percent and 7.3 percent during the same month.

Airlines serving these regions, and others, with the most considerable growth, year over year, through the month of November included Lufthansa (+ 33.2 percent), TACA (+ 22 percent), and Aeromexico (+ 10 percent).

Total air cargo shipments, during the month of November, reached a significant year-over-year increase of 7.8 percent. With regions like Asia, Africa and Australia combined; Mexico; and Central and South America combined; registering respective increases of 28 percent, 16.8 percent and 10.4 percent, in comparison to the same month in 2006.

Among the top performing air cargo carriers for the month were Federal Express and Cargolux, with respective year-over-year increases of 27.4 percent and 16.7 percent.
