  Singapore Airlines announces historic new international air services
Two new exotic destinations are being added to the travel menu at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, as Singapore Airlines announces new passenger service to Moscow, Russia and Singapore. Starting on March 20, 2008, the airline will offer four weekly nonstop flights to Moscow from IAH with continuing service to Singapore, adding two new destinations to the more than 70 international destinations already served from Houston. This historic new route marks the first scheduled passenger flights to Singapore and Moscow. Read Story

Emirates arrives in Houston
Three flights a week to Dubai are just the beginning of what the United Arab Emirates-based carrier plans on offering the local region – in two months they will be offering daily flights. The new Emirates flight that arrived in Houston, this week, is bringing in more than just a new international route for the city. The economic impact that this historic new service represents for the local region totals more than $111 million annually, according to conservative estimates by local economists. Read Story

Over 43 million passengers and counting
With the year quickly winding down, the Houston Airport System closed the month of October 2007 with more than 43 million passengers served. A good many of those travelers were headed to international destinations, according to the latest traffic figures for the month of October. International regions with the most significant increases during this same month included Central and South America combined, Canada, and Europe. Read Story

U-Scan it at the airport
In case you thought Apple’s iPhone was cutting edge, try this, the Transportation Security Administration and Houston-based Continental Airlines are teaming up to offer some passengers the option of using cell phones or PDA’s as their boarding pass. It is part of a 90-day pilot program launched at Houston’s largest airport. A select group of passengers will receive their boarding passes electronically as a bar code and TSA officers will use handheld scanners to validate the code. Read Story

International symbol at IAH receives a face lift
They are among our city’s most celebrated symbols. Having been photographed tens of thousands of times by both amateur and professional photographers, the eight columns that reach for the sky at George Bush Intercontinental Airport represent Houston’s international identity and its importance in the global economic market. Originally created in 1990 by local artist Jay Baker, the Light Spikes debuted in downtown Houston for the Economic Summit of Industrial Nations. Read Story

A milestone birthday celebration comes to a close
It’s been quite a year for Houston’s second largest airport. After 12 months of celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of the city’s oldest commercial airport, Hobby Airport management is now looking towards a bright future. Holiday jingles spread good cheer in the airports
This month, a surprise for many passengers boosted holiday spirits at George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports, as dozens of students from area schools turned out to offer their best musical performances for millions of travelers passing through the city’s two primary airports. Some were clad in red Santa Claus hats as they belted out such familiar tunes as The Grinch, Jingle Bells and I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas. Read Story

NASA’s new exhibits at Bush and Hobby airports are treating travelers to the height of human exploration
Catching a flight in Houston will be a much more inspirational affair these days thanks to a new partnership between the Houston Airport System and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The two longtime proponents of Houston’s rich aeronautic history are teaming to present a temporary cultural exhibit which showcases space-related artifacts, on display at both George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports. Read Story

Hobby Airport gets a breath of fresh air
Hundreds of volunteers gathered at William P. Hobby Airport, this month, to plant 2,007 donated trees. The Crepe Myrtle trees are a token of appreciation from Guaranty Bank executives who wanted to “pay forward” the life-saving efforts of the airport’s employees from a year earlier. What started out as a routine business trip for Guaranty’s Jim Hamilton, in 2006, turned into a fight for his life. Had it not been for the quick actions of Hobby’s employees, the story might have ended tragically. Read Story
