Over 43 million passengers and counting.

With the year quickly winding down, the Houston Airport System closed the month of October 2007 with more than 43 million passengers served.

A good many of those travelers were headed to international destinations, according to the latest traffic figures for the month of October. International regions with the most significant increases during this same month included Central and South America combined; Canada; and Europe; with respective year-over-year increases of 7.9 percent, 7.8 percent and 6.1 percent.

At George Bush Intercontinental Airport international passenger traffic continued registering considerable growth. An increase of 5.8 percent was reported for the month of October 2007, in comparison to the same timeframe in 2006.

Fueling these significant increases were foreign-flag carriers like Lufthansa and Aeromexico, which registered respective year-over-year increases of 34.8 percent and 12.6 percent, through the first 10 months of 2007.

Year-to-date total air cargo shipments have also increased by 5.3 percent, year-over-year for the Houston Airport System.

The international regions with the most significant air cargo traffic growth year-to-date, through the month of October, were Europe; and Asia, Africa and Australia combined; with respective year-over-year increases of 56.1 percent, and 15.1 percent.

Top performing air cargo carriers during this same month included Federal Express and Air France, with respective year-over-year increases of 41.3 percent and 8.9 percent.

Aircraft operations at Ellington Field also registered a year-over-year increase of 25.1 percent during the same month.
