The month of September 2007, added another 4 million travelers to the total number of passengers passing through Houston's airports this year, bringing the total number of travelers through Houston to well over 39 million, year-to-date.
Particularly impressive, this same month, was the registered growth in international passenger traffic through George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Over 524,000 international travelers passed through IAH in September, marking a year-over-year increase of 6.5 percent.
With the end of the year just months away, the international regions with the most significant growth in passenger traffic, during the same month, were Central and South America combined; Canada; and Europe; with respective year-over-year increases of 11.4 percent, 7 percent, and 5.4 percent, in comparison to the same timeframe in 2006.
For the year so far, through the month of September 2007, the top-performing passenger airlines included Lufthansa (with a year-over-year increase of + 35 percent), Aeromexico (+ 14 percent), and China Airlines (+ 12.2 percent).
Air cargo carriers Federal Express and Saudi Arabian Airlines continued their impressive growth during the month of September. Year-to-date, through the same month, the airlines have registered respective increases of 43.4 percent and 31 percent, in comparison to the same timeframe in 2006.
Total year-to-date air cargo shipments through Houston have increased by 5.3 percent. The international regions with the most significant increases during the month of September 2007 were Mexico, with an increase of 19 percent, and Asia, Africa, and Australia combined, with an increase of 15.2 percent, both year-over-year.
