EVA Air Cargo announces new air service to Houston Taiwan-based EVA Air Cargo has announced it will operate two weekly freighter flights between Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Taipei, starting on November 1st. The new scheduled service will use a Boeing 747-400 freighter and will be routed through Anchorage, Alaska on its departure from IAH, before landing in Taipei. EVA Air Cargo is now the third Asian carrier offering scheduled freighter service at IAH. Read Story

Thirty-five million passengers and counting Four months until the New Year, the Houston Airport System closed the month of August 2007 with more than 35 million passengers already served. Year-to-date, this marks a year-over-year increase of 4.4 percent in total passenger traffic for Houston’s three primary airports. Particularly strong were increases in international passenger traffic from George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Read Story
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines strikes gold This month, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines celebrated a milestone in the Houston aviation industry. After first taking flight from the Bayou City in 1957, this year, the airline reached its golden anniversary with the Houston Airport System. To honor this historic accomplishment, Houston’s City Council presented the airline with a proclamation thanking them for their commitment to the local region. Read Story
This group wants the airports to keep growing Here is a something you don’t hear about everyday – a group of civic and community leaders banding together to talk about the airports. Not to complain or demand change, but to celebrate and encourage the future growth of the aviation community in Houston. When the founders of the group, Friends of the Airport, first began discussing the possibilities of organizing into a formal committee, the main force behind their efforts was frustration. Read Story
We love Lucy and other high value cargo She was gently packed away in a hermetically sealed suitcase for her first class flight from Ethiopia to Houston, and hundreds of people helped prepare her arrival and departure at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Her name is Lucy, and she is the priceless artifact at the center of a world premiere exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Lucy also represents an example of the sort of high value cargo that is routinely handled by the Houston Airport System. Read Story
Robotic retail stores now available at Bush Intercontinental It’s a little like shopping online, only with a more instant gratification. The new ZoomSystems robotic stores stationed at George Bush Intercontinental Airport are stand alone retail stores in which consumers can purchase a diverse selection of items through a touch-screen interface. In short, they are like high-tech robotic vending machines. IAH currently has a total of five machines in Terminals A, C and D, equipped with consumer favorites such as Proactiv Solutions, Apple iPods and a variety of Motorola gadgets and gizmos. Read Story
Community turns out for Wings Over Houston 2007 Arms reaching out into the sky; laughter throughout the air; and a few flames and explosions at the city’s oldest airport commemorated this year’s 23rd annual Wings Over Houston Airshow at Ellington Field. Children, young and old, turned out by the tens-of-thousands to the joint-use civil/military airport, this month, to witness the air-spectacular that has become one of Houston’s most anticipated annual events. This year, however, there was more reason to party. Ellington Field is celebrating its 90th anniversary. Read Story
Houston Airport System employees go the extra mile for safety What do you do when you have a 700 pound threat containment unit that can only get so far on its own four wheels? Meant to remove unsafe or potentially dangerous materials from the airports’ terminals, the Aigis Blast Protection IU1200 threat containment units were first installed at all of Bush and Hobby airports security checkpoints in June of this year. The airports were the first in the world to debut this unique technology. Read Story
Birds fly south for the winter and land at Hobby Airport The Houston Airport System recently partnered up with the Houston Audubon Society to unveil a new art exhibit at William P. Hobby Airport. Faces of Flight, the photographic work of Ted Lee Eubanks Jr., features birds such as the Black-billed Cuckoo, the Brown Thrasher, the Hooded Warbler and the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in unusually close focus. Dogs and their owners are invited out to race at IAH Expect to see boots on the ground along with sneakers, flip flops and paws at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on October 20th, all participating in our annual runway race with the airplanes. The event has been re-named this year to the Mutt Strut & Runway Race, benefiting the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Family entertainment, food, prizes, free child care and parking are all included in the $25 admission fee. Read Story
