Houston’s international air traffic continues to soar
Houston’s international air traffic continues to rise thanks to a steady cargo and passenger traffic increases. According to the July 2007 figures, international air cargo traffic increased by 11 percent and international passenger traffic climbed 3 percent year-to-date, compared to 2006.
Total air cargo traffic for the Houston Airport System increased by 10 percent, year-over-year, during the month of July 2007. The regions with the most significant increases during this month were Asia, Africa and Australia combined, and Mexico; with respective year-over-year increase of 50 percent and 33 percent.
Among the top performing cargo airlines for the month were China Airlines, with a 114 percent increase; Fed-Ex, with a 48 percent increase; TACA, with an 18 percent increase; and Saudi Arabian Airlines, with a 14.5 percent increase.
The most significant increases in international passenger service during this same month were Europe, with an increase of 7 percent; Central and South America, with an increase of 5 percent; and Canada, with a 6 percent increase, all year-to-date.
Top performing passenger airlines for 2007’s first seven months include Lufthansa, China Airlines and AeroMexico with respective year-over-year increases of 40 percent, 35 percent, and 5 percent. More than 30 million passengers have already been served by Houston’s airports through the month of July 2007.
So far this year, Ellington Field’s active general aviation sector increased total aircraft operations by 14 percent.
