International air cargo at HAS continues to increase.

International air freight poundage passing though the Houston Airport System in 2006 continued to increase during the month of October. So did the number of passengers flying through Houston’s two primary airports – George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby.

For the month of October 2006, total international air cargo for the Houston Airport System increased by 10 percent, in comparison to the same timeframe in 2005.

International air cargo to and from Central and South America; Asia, Africa and Australia combined; and Europe respectively increased by 37 percent; 22.4 percent; and 11 percent, year-over-year for the month of October.

Among the top-performing cargo airlines for the same month were China Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Air France, Cargolux and Pakistan International Airlines; each with respective year-over-year increases of 89 percent, 84 percent, 70 percent, 42 percent and 26 percent.

Passenger traffic through Bush and Hobby airports also registered healthy growth during the same month. Year-to-date, total passenger traffic for the Houston Airport System has increased by 7 percent through the month of October 2006.

The top-performing passenger airlines for the month included Air France; Aeromexico; and Continental Airlines passenger traffic to Central and South America; each with respective year-over-year increases of 47 percent; 20 percent and 17 percent for the month of October 2006.
