The bronze sculpture of Houston Congressman Mickey Leland is located on the lower level of Terminal D. He lost his life in a 1989 airplane accident in Ethiopia during a food relief mission.

This piece depicts Congressman Leland reaching out to children. 

About the Artist

Ed Dwight’s early career included stints as an Air Force test pilot and NASA astronaut trainee. For the last 30 years, he has worked as a sculptor and has created over 80 public works of art, including several airport pieces.

His commissions honor individuals, historic events and the contributions of African-Americans in the stream of America’s history.
