Reconstruction of Broadway Street as well as important roadway modifications at Hobby Airport are underway and set to be complete by late 2015.
A major reconstruction of Broadway Street, the central roadway leading to William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) from interstate 45, is now underway. Motorists are advised to allow extra time and use alternate routes such as Monroe Road or Airport Boulevard to avoid delays.

The $17 million project will reconstruct Broadway Street from interstate 45 to Airport Boulevard including new traffic lights at Dixie Drive, Santa Elena Drive, Bellfort Avenue, Rockhill Street and Morely Street. Sidewalks and wheelchair ramps will be rebuilt to meet current American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Water and sewer lines will be replaced and some power lines and telecommunication cables will be relocated.

The Broadway reconstruction project is managed by the City of Houston Public Works and Engineering Department and will complement the expansion project currently in progress at Hobby Airport including a new international terminal and multi-level parking garage set to be complete by late 2015.

"I am very excited to break ground on this project," said District I Council Member Robert Gallegos. "I will continue working with the Hobby Area Management District, Scenic Houston and the Houston Arts Alliance on a beautification and arts component to this project so that, when finished, Broadway will be a signature corridor for our community and serve as a gateway for business travelers and tourists visiting our city."

Houston Airport System officials recently announced the start of ongoing lane closures on Airport Boulevard as Hobby Airport’s roadway modification project commenced to support the new international terminal and parking garage. Passengers are strongly encouraged to obtain specific arrival time information directly from their chosen airline but in general terms, customers are advised to arrive at the airport at least an hour-and-a-half prior to scheduled flight departure time. This is especially important during peak travel times, which are typically 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
