Aeros & Autos brings thousands to Ellington Airport each year and supports local charities.
Almost 5,000 Texans from all over the state attended the sixth annual Aeros & Autos event, held at Ellington Airport (EFD) on Saturday, May 17. The family-friendly event included an impressive car show and Houston’s premiere speed event, the Houston Half Mile Shootout.

“Aeros & Autos combines the best of the transportation worlds and has become a revered event in the community,” said Shawn Chittum, Ellington Airport Operations Supervisor and event organizer. “Most importantly, proceeds from ticket sales support two remarkable local charities.”

Aeros & Autos takes place at a location at Ellington that is rarely accessible to the public. It is a well-attended event that features children activities, static aircraft, car displays, live entertainment, food and more.

The Houston Half Mile Shootout gives drivers the rare opportunity to test their need for speed safely on Ellington’s 8,000 foot long runway. The event is also home to Houston’s leading car show and brings out a wide range of autos from modern hot rods to custom low riders.

The City of Houston’s Combined Municipal Campaign (CMC) allows city employees to raise funds to be contributed to various charitable organizations of their choice. This year, the Houston Airport System is donating proceeds from Aeros and Autos ticket sales to the Texas Lions Camp and the Lone Star Veterans Association.

The Texas Lions Camp provides a week long adventure of fun in the Texas Hill Country for children with special needs. The Lone Star Veterans Association is dedicated to assisting returning veterans and their families in successful transition from the military to civilian world including career transition and PTSD support. It is the largest Iraq and Afghanistan veteran organization in the state of Texas.
