Lane Closures Begin at Hobby Airport

Lane closures will impact passenger drop-off and pick-up. Please arrive early.

Roadway modifications, necessary to accommodate the arrival of international air service at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) are now underway.  The work began on Monday, April 28, 2014, and will include a series of lane closures, located primarily on the entry roadway that leads directly to passenger pick-up and drop-off.

Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the airport at least an hour and 30 minutes (1 ½ hours) before their flight, especially during the peak travel periods that occur in the early morning and late afternoon hours.  Motorists are asked to pay particular close attention to directional signage displayed at HOU during this construction period.

Helpful Tips for HOU Travelers:

• Drivers picking up arriving passengers should use the Cell Phone Lot, as opposed to circling the airport roads. The lot can be found off Airport Boulevard, west of the main entry.

• Check with your airline for specific flight information, but in general terms, arrive an hour-and-a-half prior to scheduled departure time. Especially important between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

• Customers may want to consider the ecopark 2 parking lot, which is located off Airport Blvd., east of the main entry. (This area is unaffected by construction and lane closures.)

• Please pay close attention to the directional signage, particularly in area approaching upper level ramp

Proposed Lane Closure Schedule:

The initial lane closure will occur in the area immediately north of the upper level roadway (the ramp used for passenger drop-off will remain unaffected throughout the traffic project) and is scheduled to last for one week (April 28 - May 3).

Once the initial phase is complete, the lane closure will move to the northernmost portion of the road, a move expected to take place on May 14. This area of work will permanently remove two lanes of traffic previously used to guide drivers directly into the entryway helix for the covered parking garage. Drivers will now access the helix through an entry point slightly closer to the garage structure itself.
