United Airlines has announced plans to launch daily nonstop air service between Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Munich International Airport (MUC) in Munich, Germany beginning April 24, 2014.

The airline also revealed plans to add a second nonstop daily flight from IAH to Narita International Airport (NRT) in Tokyo, Japan on March 30, 2014.

“The new flights from Houston further expand United’s unmatched route network and offer additional travel opportunities with our joint venture partners ANA and Lufthansa,” said Cheryl Reed, United Airlines’ Houston Regional Sales Director. “In addition to adding more nonstop service from Houston, the flights are conveniently timed to provide one-stop connections at the hub from destinations across the Americas.”

The Houston - Munich flight will depart from IAH daily at 4:10 p.m., arriving at 9:50 a.m. the next day at Munich International Airport. The return flight will leave Munich at 9:25 a.m. and arrive in Houston at 2:15 p.m. the same day.  The flight will be served with a Boeing 767-400 aircraft.

United Airlines' new second daily flight to Tokyo will be served by a Boeing 777 aircraft which can easily accommodate 265 passengers.

The second flight will depart IAH daily at 9 a.m., arriving at 12:35 p.m. the next day at Narita International Airport. The return flight to Houston will depart Tokyo at 6:55 p.m. and arrive at 4:55 p.m. the same day.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport had a record-number of international passengers in 2012, surpassing the 8.7 million mark.  As a result, airlines continue to recognize the growth opportunities that currently exist within the Houston market, especially for overseas air service.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport serves as United Airlines’ largest hub.
