Mario Diaz has been chosen by Airport Revenue News as the 2014 Airport Director of the Year.

Houston Aviation Director Mario C. Diaz has been named Airport Director of the Year by Airport Revenue News (ARN), a leading trade publication within the aviation industry.

The recognition comes in the "Large Airport" category of the publication's annual awards issue. Diaz was selected by ARN’s editorial staff from a pool of highly qualified candidates for excelling in many key executive areas such as leadership and service.

“ARN is honored to recognize Mario's achievements and energetic brand of leadership,” says Ramon Lo, Editorial Director for ARN. “The three airports under his purview are certainly benefitting from his experience working for some of the busiest airports in the United States."

As Director of the Houston Airport System, Diaz oversees George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), William P. Hobby (HOU) and Ellington Airport (EFD).

Before arriving in Houston in 2010, Diaz served at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL), John F. Kennedy International (JFK), Newark Liberty International (EWR) and Teterboro (TEB). Diaz is a graduate of Rutgers University and a licensed pilot with instrument certification.

“We are growing into a high-performance organization here at the Houston Airport System and I’m proud to represent them as we continue to secure new international air service and find ways to pilot programs that expedite and enhance the customer experience,” says Diaz. “My mentors over the last 30 years have taught me to never stop learning, and I pass that enthusiasm on to our hard-working and innovative team.”

Diaz will be interviewed in and featured on the cover of the December 2013/January 2104 double-issue of ARN. He will be presented this award at the ARN 2014 Revenue Conference & Exhibition.
